Animal-based food products—such as red meat, poultry, eggs, honey, fish, and their processed derivatives (e.g. sausages, cold cuts, canned meats, pasteurized eggs)—are essential sources of protein in both Iranian and global diets, and play a significant role in Iran’s agricultural and food economy.
Iran has substantial capacity in livestock farming, poultry production, aquaculture, and beekeeping. The use of semi-industrial and industrial systems, optimized feed, vaccination programs, and advanced packaging and processing technologies has improved product quality, safety, and shelf life.
These products contribute significantly to domestic consumption, employment across animal husbandry and food industries, and national food security. Proper processing and packaging also enhance value addition and economic efficiency.
Iran has export potential for selected animal products such as honey, eggs, fish, and certain meat products—primarily to regional markets, Central Asia, Russia, and the Gulf countries.
Iran’s competitive advantages include access to livestock resources, experienced labor, relatively low production costs, and expanding production infrastructure. However, compliance with international hygiene standards, improvement in packaging, and strategic market development are key to strengthening Iran’s position in global animal product exports.
